DARKPSY EXCLUSIVE

THE DARKPSYDE INTERVIEW

-----------------------

DIGITALX

DigitalX

Every so often a darkpsy artist with remarkable talent simply appears out of nowhere without warning bringing with them highly advanced technical skills and flawless production. One of those surprising artists, who has only just now appeared on the 'known' scene, is Alexis aka DigitalX from Cyprus.

His first release, 'It Is Time' on the free album Fear Of Death (available in our album section) made a lot of people take notice. It is therefore with great pleasure that this month we welcome Alexis to The Darkpsyde.

Q 1 - You have been involved with this music for a long time, 10 years now! Internationally speaking we have only heard of you very recently, have you been releasing music under a different name or simply been perfecting your skills before ‘stepping out’ so to speak?

A – Confidence is the main reason that an artist ''steps out'' from their own studio; the connections and liaisons are the second. As an upcoming artist from Cyprus these reasons both applied, knowing how difficult is to promote and to be acknowledged coming from a place with not too big a psy-scene.

Before taking the decision to move into the academic fields and then graduate from them successfully I had been working as a DJ most of the time but for the psy-scene for the last five years after my graduation. Actually the time I spent in London changed me too and also I haven't been releasing under another name so far.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Q 2 – What are your imminent plans? Is there a DigitalX album coming anytime soon and do you have any collaborations going on?

A – Hehe, I have enough of my own productions for even more than one album but at the moment I'm concentrating on one upcoming project with the Greek artist and good fellow mate Pascal aka Kerberos under the name VOC (Victims of Coincidence). We have reached an advanced stage and the completion of the album should be expected in the early months of next year.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Q 3 – You come from Cyprus, also home to fellow artist Claw? You both have very strong, professional and unique musical styles, is this a reflection of the scene in Cyprus? Is it a healthy and longstanding scene or is ‘darkpsy’ a fairly new concept there?

A – Yes we both are from there and we're even from the same city. But for me Cyprus is just a place to make my music. The psy-scene is existing in a very mutant way, commercial and money oriented rather than artistic.

About our styles I don't really think that the place has anything to do with it but the hot Mediterranean blood could have had some influences on me and Claw hehe... I am always looking for my music to be unique and memorable trying to create my own style of darkpsy and always keeping the underground spirit in my tracks.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Q 4 – You studied music production at SAE College and Thames University in London. What were the production courses like there and how did you like London in general?

A – Woooow, London and SAE College .... It was my dream which came true hehe... There I completed full course of ''Music production'' and I did some courses in sound engineering. In this place I met with many people coming from all around the world who were as thirsty as I was to learn. In Thames Valley University I studied ''Sound sampling and sound design'' and now you can hear this in my music. London is still a killah place for me and going back there is in my future plans.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Q 5 – What are your ‘hopes and dreams’ for the DigitalX project, what is the main goal for you?

A – I want DigitalX's music to be respected and played more than one time by all my fellow artists and also from people involved in anyway with the darkpsy scene worldwide. For myself I wish to have the chance to play in parties and festivals. Oh, yes and of course I want to release a solo album.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Q 6 – Darkpsy is the label that has been slapped upon our music, personally I prefer the description full power night time music. It is a debate that has been going on almost since the expression was first coined, so, do you like the term ‘darkpsy’?

A – Of course I like the term ''darkpsy''! Though for me this kind of night music should have the name 'full on dark psychedelic trance'

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Q 7 – What are your thoughts on music piracy?

A – I am not a pirate, I don't like piracy and I will never agree with it but unfortunately it's there, it's existing and there are not too many actions that could possibly stop the piracy.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Q 8 – Where is your favourite place in the world to party and why?

A – Brazil and Mexico because of their tropical deep forests and the underground spirit of the parties.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Q 9 – What is your best party memory as an artist and why?

A – That was last year actually in Tchamla kingdom. As soon as I got up on the stage and I played my first track it started to rain and regardless of that the people stayed on the dancefloor until the end of my set dancing under the rain!! Woooooow, that was awesome!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Q 10 - And your best memory as a party goer?

A – Samothraki 2001 festival - fantastic, killah, will never happen again.
