DARKPSY EXCLUSIVE
THE DARKPSYDE INTERVIEW
-----------------------
HIGHKO

This month our Darkpsy(de) interview comes to you from Berlin, Germany in the form of Highko!
Welcome to The Darkpsyde Heiko. I know how busy you are right now so thanks for taking the time to join us.
Q 1 - You have been involved in the trance scene one way or another for around a decade now, do you feel that the scene has changed for the better or for the worse in that time?
A – I feel that nowadays, the trance scene has many problems related to stricter drug laws and party permissions compared to times before when trance was newer. In the past the music was not so split up into different styles, and the parties were for fun and everyone had a more together feeling. Nowadays I feel a lot of the events organised are only for money, which is making the scene sometimes very commercial, taking away the true spirit of trance. The development of music is also very influenced by money. The best parties I went to in last year were the ones for free with 100 people... underground style.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q 2 – Your Noise Brothers On Poison album was released in 2006 and received good responses on dancefloors around the world, do you have any other albums in the pipeline and if so what can we expect from them?
A – Sure, since the last release I’ve been working on my next album which will be similar to the Brothers On Poison record. I am almost done and hope to release it at the end of 2007. Right now I hang out with Cosmo in Berlin and we're screwing around with some Highcosmos projects. I don’t want to say too much about this now, it will be a surprise.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q 3 – You are a co-founder of Noise Poison Records along with Iguana from Naked Tourist. The label is currently home to 8 artists (including yourself) and has released 3 artist albums and 1 VA to date. Have you discovered any new talents that you are hoping to add to the Noise Poison family and does the label have any upcoming releases? A – The first VA was the start of Noise Poison but I think we marked out our style with the Highcosmos release 4 Real. Since then we have even less artists that make the style we are looking for. We often hear things like, too fast, too crazy, but that’s exactly the point. If you make the same like everyone else you just make the same like everyone else!! By keeping your style of music, you build trust with the people who like it. We have been searching for tracks for the next VA since releasing the last, so almost over 2 years and we will need longer until we have found 10 NOISE POISON TRACKS, no compromises. There are some new artists that make really good music, from Russia and India, so I hope that we can finish the next VA also this year.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q 4 – What are your views on the current trend of music piracy? A – I don’t care, there was times I got pissed like a freak but in the end it’s my own fault if I give unreleased tracks to people. Tracks that only I have will not be shared. On the other hand, I like to see as many people as possible listening to Noise Poison sound, where they get it from is up to them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q 5 - What is the scene like in Germany both with artists and parties? A – Oh, I play maximum 2 times a year in Germany because 1st I am from there and 2nd because the people like more progressive music. Friends organised this year, for the first time, a dark festival called Psycrowdelica Open Air, kind of a revolution over here. It was so good that there wouldn’t be even 1 seconds hesitation about doing it again.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q 6 – Darkpsy is the label that has been slapped upon our music, personally I prefer the description full power night time music. It is a debate that has been going on almost since the expression was first coined, so, do you like the term ‘darkpsy’?
A – No, not really, dark is more the spooky, foggy kind of trance to me. I think Noise Poison is more power trance and not just for night time.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q 7 – Who are your favourite upcoming producers at the moment?
A – Furious (RUS), Select Project (RUS) and Spiral (IND)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q 8 – Where is your favourite place in the world to party and why?
A – To party - Japan, because there is still full respect to the art of music. To live – Berlin. In our squat we can live like we want to, not many rules and no volume limits.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q 9 – What is your best party memory as an artist and why?
A – The best memories are always related to a minty taste, but let’s talk about this on the dancefloor…. ;)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q 10 - And your best memory as a party goer?
A – See Q9
