KEROSENE CLUB
Firstly, thank you for joining us for our very first Darkpsy(de) interview, it's an honour to have you here Brian. Let's get to business....
Q 1 - What was it that originally inspired you to write music and where did the name Kerosene Club come from?
A – As for music, been composing tunes in my head since a kid, but the inspiration to get them into existence happened only when I was in college and spent a couple of days at a local college rock fest there. My first howl at the moon happened then, my journey into the underground, the first steps were taken there. As for the name, Kerosene Club, well, Kerosene as a hydrocarbon liquid reflects me, on its own, its safe, peaceful, calm, harmless, but when bought in contact with fire, can really send the temperatures soaring and roaring. And I found I wasn’t the only one with these characteristics, so that’s why the Club, so welcome to the ‘Kerosene Club’.

Q 2 – You have just released your debut darkpsy album Forest Of The Freaks. We love it here but how have you felt the response to it has been?
A – The feedback has been really good, the cd has just been released, so in some time I will know the wider response when the minds have soaked it all in.

Q 3 – What are your views on the current trend of music piracy?
A – Its all related, like displaced parts of a cruel puzzle. The piracy form, movie piracy, software piracy, operating systems piracy, and when 90% use most of these forms of piracy, u will get music piracy… The victims are also part of the abusers. I’m sure there exists some kind of cyber karma so it’s a devil which we have to live with.
Yes, music piracy sucks, I hope it will die a natural death or just wish that Bush believes Bin Laden is transporting weapons of mass destruction thru mp3s and Wavs and Flacs and whatever) and BUSH should declare war against piracy.

Q 4 – You own and run darkpsy label Temple Twisters Records, what can we look forward to from the label next?
A – A V.A called DOCTORS OF CHEMISTRY featuring Samadhi, Phobos, Kerosene Club, Infernal, Flipknot, Kashykk, Highko, Red, Already Maged, then some albums and v.a’s and then some more albums and some more v.a’s and so on, but I like to take one thing at a time, coz I’m also running another couple of labels. And yes, planning a Kerosene Club and his 9 Sick Friends Vs album next year.

Q 5 - What is the scene like in India? There are many great artists coming out from there but is there a very healthy party scene too?
A – The scene in India is unhealthy, so much of its gone into a coma. I would just like to say people should learn to party responsibly so the outsiders can view it in better light.

Q 6 – Darkpsy is the label that has been slapped upon our music, personally I prefer the description full power night time music. It is a debate that has been going on almost since the expression was first coined, so, do you like the term ‘darkpsy’?
A – Psy music is going thru a phase like what rock and heavy metal went thru in the early 80’s. Genres were being created like Glam, Heavy, Thrash, Death, Doom Metal and so on…Similarly we are at the doorsteps of new genres being created, DARKPSY is an abused word, anything fast and noisy and deep and non groovy is called darkpsy.
Yes there is dark music but there is also lot of dark music that is misinterpreted, the so called dark sounds has metamorphosed into many styles, u have the Russians, Danish, Greeks, Americans, Israelis and the Japanese who have undiscovered talents. It’s psychedelic dance music at different frequencies and tempo.
I don’t like the word Darkpsy being used inappropriately everywhere, just like u can’t call Hostel and Saw horror movies, while in fact they are gore suspense movies, technically speaking.

Q 7 – Which are your favourite upcoming producers at the moment?
A – Kashykk, Phobos, Already Maged and many more. I need to check my MSN list for it, hehehe!

Q 8 – Where is your favourite place in the world to party?
A – Outdoors – for sure in Goa (but it looks like it's history now). Indoors - my home.

Q 9 – What is your best party memory as an artist?
A – It was last year in Moscow, Technical Freaks party with a host of Russian artists, the best part was in the beginning of the party when the Russian bomb squad evacuated the place coz of some bomb hoax, I hit panic button while the Russians were calm, looks like they were used to such false rumours. The party resumed and the place exploded with music through till next morning.

Q 10 - …And your best memory as a party goer?
A – Too too many to name.
